Where to Watch A House of Dynamite
- AntonelloAugust 10, 2026This movie grows in me every time I watch it. A clever way to tell the story of an inevitable event, a mystery that none can solve, and the ramifications around the disaster that is unfolding. Everytime I want to spend some time and relax, I put it on and watch it. Definitively one of my favorite movies.
- rg9400July 7, 2026The first 35 minutes of this movie is absolutely fantastic. Pulse pounding, high tension, heartbeat score with strong acting that drives home the impact of what is happening. I really thought I was watching something special. And then...it cuts to black. And then we start over again. Then it does it again after the next third, cutting back at the same point before looping back to the beginning. I was baffled by this decision on so many levels. First, the 3 different perspectives aren't actually that different from each other. It isn't like we are suddenly seeing a different side to the events (which would have been cool). It isn't like we are following 3 specific different characters. Each third follows a ton of characters, and often times, the 2 loops are repeating the same events and becoming very repetitive. At a high level, yes, there is a slight thematic shift in each act. However, there is no reason that Bigelow should have looped each time. These moments and themes could have easily been woven into a chronological telling of this story. The looping causes the tension to screech to a halt, and for something that has such a heart-pounding pace, it is crazy that I ended up starting to feel bored in the last third because of how repetitive it was getting. Yes, there are a ton of famous actors and actresses in this. At one point near the end, I exclaimed because yet another familiar face showed up for like 5 minutes, and I have no idea why. I suspect that Bigelow wanted so many stars, and so she filmed this in such a way that she could include them without having to have them all on set at the same time. That's the only reason to structure this movie so poorly. That leads me to another failure of this storytelling. I actually thought the characters were compelling and fascinating in the first third. It follows a diverse number of them, already a large amount of characters, and I thought we were getting interesting mini-arcs for so many of them. Then, they all disappear as the perspective shifts, and the movie never resolves their stories. Maybe that was part of the point, showing how so many human stories get lost in such an event. However, I found it deeply unsatisfying. Finally, I need to talk about the ending. After all this looping and teasing what happens...the movie cuts to black. I don't want to talk spoilers, but suffice to say, it is one of the most unsatisfying endings to a movie that I can recall in recent memory. It makes me wonder what this movie was even trying to accomplish. I don't understand the decision-making or intent at all. It's maybe one of the most drastic changes of opinions I have had in a movie from its beginning to the ending. To be honest, I am honestly livid at how much wasted potential and talent there is in this movie. It had such a strong start and could have easily been one of the best movies I've seen this year. Instead, it is something worse than a bad movie. It's a movie that should have been good but squandered its opportunities and ended up making a shocking number of bafflingly dumb decisions. What a waste.
- Enid&RichardOctober 26, 2025We found the film to be quite unsatisfactory. It began with promise but quickly declined, never quite recovering. What a regrettable use of top tier talent. The ending, in our opinion, is among one of the most poorly conceived in recent cinematic history. This once again leads us to question the validity of the ratings system.
