- Monkey See! Monkey Review!!June 21, 2026TLDR —> Overall, I highly recommend giving Above Suspicion a watch. At its core, it’s an unexpected and messy love affair that spirals into tragedy. If it weren’t based on a true story, I probably would have wished for a different ending—but real life rarely wraps things up the way we want, especially in stories like this. I went into Above Suspicion without any real expectations, but I was genuinely excited to see Emilia Clarke step outside her iconic Mother of Dragons persona and to watch Johnny Knoxville take on a role far removed from what he’s typically known for. What surprised me most was just how different this film is from anything either actor has done before. This is a gritty, backwoods crime drama through and through, and I found myself really drawn into the story. If you’re into films such as: • Donnie Brasco — undercover tension and blurred loyalties • The Departed — crime, corruption, and moral decay • Black Mass — gritty realism and criminal obsession …or if you enjoy crime dramas with a twisted, obsessive relationship at the center, this movie will likely hit the mark. Sure, the film could have dug even deeper into the darker elements of the true story and pushed the grit further, but I actually appreciated the pacing and how the plot unfolded. It left me curious enough to want to explore the real-life case behind it.
