Where to Watch Above the Law
- CryginaAugust 20, 2026I've been on the fence for a while about weather or not this film earns a spot in my permanent collection. Ultimately I decided it does. I'm not a big fan of the macho raspy voice image Segal brings to the table, but he makes up for it with cool stunts. This movie has some pretty special action scenes & the plot is at least bearable.
- ርልዪረFebruary 23, 2025My Favourite Seagal film, and also his first I believe. Myself and my kids have always loved Martial Art related movies. It started with the Karate Kid trilogy but as a family we all took up Karate and reached a high level over the years. It was then we realised the likes of Karate Kid and numerous others lacked authenticity when it came to the fight choreography. That is not the case with Nico. Not the most original plot but a decent supporting cast including Pam Grier and a young Sharon Stone made it watchable. What is breathtaking is Mr Seagal's obvious mastery of Aikido. He earned at least one of his Black Belt degrees training in Japan and I know from my own instuctors experiences they are not overly welcoming to westerners in their Dojo, so it is a big deal. I have watched other films by this man which were also watchable but this for me is a must.
- jackmeatFebruary 10, 2025My quick rating - 6.1/10. This fight for no-reason government conspiracy action flick still holds up quite well. If you are familiar with Steven Seagal's work, this is one of his best. He plays Nico Toscani, an Italian immigrant, American patriot, ex-CIA agent, aikido specialist, and unorthodox Chicago policeman. He is as committed to his job as he is to his personalized brand of justice—expert and thorough bone-crushing. Pam Grier plays his partner as they bust a typical drug deal that turns out to be a far deeper conspiracy causing them to have no one to trust. The hand-to-hand fight scenes were well done and for his first time film, Seagal established himself as a box office action star almost immediately. Seems sort of timely right now with some high ranking official believing they are "immune" to the law.
