I watched the movie. I didn’t think I was gonna like it, but I did. It’s a good movie. It’s entertaining.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Alice Through the Looking Glass — Familiar Madness, Rewound and Refocused Much like Alice in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass takes a little time to settle, but once it does, it comfortably slides back into that richly stylised version of Wonderland we already know. If you enjoyed the first film, this sequel feels less like a surprise and more like a continuation — not trying to reinvent the wheel, just keeping it turning. Johnny Depp once again leans fully into the Mad Hatter’s eccentricity, but this time with a little more emotional weight. The story gives him more focus, allowing the character to feel less like pure chaos and more like someone with a past worth exploring. It’s a smart shift that helps the film stand on its own rather than feeling like a simple repeat. The visual design remains a major strength. The world is colourful, strange, and unapologetically artificial in the best way — very much in line with the Burton-inspired aesthetic, even if Burton himself isn’t directing this time. The film still feels cut from the same cloth, which helps maintain continuity across the two entries. The supporting cast once again reads like a roll call of recognisable faces, and while not everyone gets equal time to shine, the ensemble works well as a whole. The story stays anchored in the familiar themes of time, identity, and growing up, which suits the sequel’s slightly more reflective tone. Like its predecessor, this won’t win over those who disliked the first film. But for those already on board, it’s an enjoyable return trip — comfortable, visually imaginative, and respectful of the classic story it’s expanding. 🍵 Pairing: A second cup of spiced chai — familiar, comforting, and best enjoyed once you already know what flavour you’re getting.

Consider films like "Return to Oz," and "The Neverending Story II," and "Wrath of the Titans," when considering this movie. They return to a world you remember, with characters you care about - and do learn more lore and of new places in that world - but, sadly, the magic just isn't recaptured. It pales in comparison to the first in every way. But, thankfully, doesn't actively damage the previous installment.
