stuhannaford reviewedMarch 2, 2026 For a film titled 'Basic', its storyline is anything but, in terms of trying to follow what on Earth is going on. It's a murder mystery in a jungle setting, with a long list of names of characters that you have no investment in, nor idea who is who. I'm not overly sure what the initial plot setting is to be perfectly honest. And then to top that element of confusion off, the writers clearly decided that if one twist is good, and a second is great... why not do ten, eleven, twelve? A complete and utter, incoherent mess. Even when you think they have twisted themselves out, and the final, final reveal is offered up... they turn the story on its head again... and then again for good measure. Zero chemistry from the two leads and the less said about Ribisi's odd accent the better.
