- RichardFebruary 8, 2026I first rented Battle Beyond the Stars on VHS and it had that unmistakable charm of early 80s sci‑fi, ambitious, colorful and proudly low budget in the best Roger Corman way. Watching it on tape made the whole experience feel even more authentic. The slightly fuzzy picture, the worn edges of the cassette and that classic VHS sound all added to the atmosphere. The movie itself was a wild ride: a space opera remix of The Magnificent Seven, packed with quirky characters, imaginative ship designs and effects that were clearly made with passion and creativity, even if the budget was tiny. It had heart, and that’s what made it memorable. The whole film had that mix of creativity and scrappy ingenuity, quirky characters, imaginative ships and effects that were clearly made with passion. It’s one of those VHS discoveries that sticks with you not just because of the story, but because of the experience of finding it at the rental store, taking it home and being surprised by how much fun it was. And of course… Sybil Danning. Her costume wasn’t just memorable, it was iconic. That bold, space warrior outfit instantly stood out, giving her character a striking presence that burned itself into the memory of anyone who watched the film back then. It was the kind of design only the 80s could deliver: dramatic, unapologetic and absolutely part of the movie’s charm.
- KnightmareAlphaAugust 24, 2025Principally another remake of 7 Samurai, but made with lot's of charm and love. Probably one of best Corman produced features. The cast is strong, the theme a well-worn evergreen, and the effects were so good (for B-Movie standards), Corman kept using them for decades. The only few downsides are that our main lead needs to warm up a bit and that the ending is slightly too abrupt. We barely have time for a coda to deliver the movies message. Also, considering that George Peppard was hammered for most of the production, he still delivers a passable performance.
