Where to Watch Better Luck Tomorrow
- JakeysJanuary 16, 2026I think if the story weren't undercooked, this had the potential to be far better than it was. Justin Lin is a good director, and John Cho was excellent and easily the best part of this. I wanted to like it more, but the plot was pretty unconvincing. It's like a coming of age story except there's a rapid and unearned ramp up in crimes and I just didn't buy that these guys were cut out for what they were doing, or that they wouldn't get caught almost immediately. They're operating in a world where not only do police apparently not exist, but adults don't exist either - other than the fact all these high school students look 30 years old. There's no way Han would have gotten carded for those beers, I didn't even realise he was meant to be in high school with them initially, I thought he was like a much older cousin. :P Also, I watched this because I wanted to see Han's origin story, as he's easily the stand out in Tokyo Drift. Unfortunately, the Han in this movie is nowhere near as fleshed out, charismatic or interesting as the Han in Tokyo Drift. No shade to Sung Kang, he just didn't get given as much to do as a side character here.
