An X-ray machine reveals the presence of a corpse in an Egyptian sarcophagus. It is not that of the ancient high priest. Instead the body is that of the archaeologist who was thought to be on a trip to the Upper Nile, but is now found murdered.

If you can forgive the character of Snowshoe as a product of the time (although insanely offensive in the present day) the rest of the film is perfectly enjoyable. Really the first of the "Chan in an exotic location" movies and it does a solid job.

I remember watching this on TV as a kid with my parents and absolutely loving the main character. It’s definitely a product of its time, something that couldn’t be made today, but that’s what makes it so fascinating. You have to watch it with the 1930s in mind to really appreciate its humor, style and cultural context. A nostalgic and eye opening experience.

This film uses Fetchit as its counterpoint to Chan. It uses harmful racial stereotypes to power its humor. I realize the film was made in 1935, but it's not fun or funny anymore.
