I like to think the entire John Wick franchise is inspired by the club scene in this movie.
Some of the best firearms handling seen outside the John Wick movies. The script is a little weak in some spots, but the final product is both entertaining and realistic.
Collateral is nothing special but really enjoyed this thriller.
Positives:
- The performances are great
- The movie doesn’t have tons of action but when we do get some action it’s really intense and entertaining
- The movie is really intense and really keeps you on the edge of your seat for most of the runtime
- The soundtrack is decent as well
- Tom Cruise is awesome as the villain
Negatives:
- The movie is overly generic and a movie I have definitely seen a million times before
- The characters are nothing memorable
- The movie can drag at some points and kind of feels repetitive at some points.
Overall Collateral is a good movie but a movie I have definitely seen before
One of my favourite films. Before John Wick there was Tom Cruise as Vincent.

Tom Cruise plays against type as a villain and nails the role.
Good pace. Surprising characters. Stakes are well balanced and Foxx grows a lot. Well driven film.
Perfect thriller. Tom Cruise and Jamie Fox at their best.
Different take on the "well-dressed killer" genre. Actually a bit deeper than I expected, especially with its poetic ending.
Tom Cruise nailed the villain role. I only wish he took on that role more times in his career.
Man, this was really good. I would rate it a little higher if it wasn't a weak in the script department on a few things here and there and have some cheesy tropes, and some weird pacing at times... but the action, the tension, and the deep conversations between Cruise and Foxx hit hard.
Not the typical Tom Cruise movie great performance by the cast and directing. The cinematography was great despite the fact that is a 20+ year movie, it still surprises you, but the ending could have been better.
Possibly my favourite movie. If anyone says Tom Cruise is a boring actor, just point them here. Mann's best, no doubt.
Also, aesthetically gorgeous movie too. I've never been to LA, but this movie makes me feel like I have. It takes early digital technology and masterfully executes it.
Collateral lacks significant character development, yet it still remains gripping, particularly with its intense and suspenseful final act.
