Creepshow remains one of the best horror anthology films ever made. I grew up watching it alongside plenty of others in the genre, but it still ranks in my Top 5 for its storytelling, practical effects, pacing and perfectly balanced scare factor.
Bringing together two masters of the macabre, George A. Romero and Stephen King, was like capturing lightning in a bottle. Each of the five stories has its own distinct flavor of creepiness, ranging from genuinely terrifying to darkly funny, though not necessarily in that order. Few anthology films manage to feel this varied while still working so well as a complete package.
My dad put this one on, told me all about how he was a kid in high school when this came out and how freaked out each of the stories made him. All the different deaths dug up different fears I didn’t know I had, so this was a good one.
