Where to Watch Death Sentence
- Patrick WaiJune 3, 2026If you’re making a revenge movie, you need to know what people came for, and this one keeps getting distracted by drama when it should be delivering more action. There’s just too much moody family anguish and not enough satisfying ass-kicking, which is a problem when the whole engine of the movie is supposed to be vengeance. John Goodman is good, honestly better than Kevin Bacon, and everyone else, especially the bad guys, feels like they wandered in from a different, much dumber movie. That lines up with a lot of the criticism the film got at the time too: Rotten Tomatoes has it at 20%, with the consensus calling it nonsensical and overwrought, while other reviews said Bacon was only intermittently convincing and the whole thing pushes plausibility right off a cliff. The movie is also way too over the top for how seriously it wants to be. And I am beyond tired of the dumb-cop routine in movies like this, where the police exist mainly to be incompetent, late, or stupid enough to keep the revenge plot moving. There are a few good moments, and James Wan does stage some scenes with real energy, but that is not enough. If you want a revenge or vigilante movie, there are much better ones out there. This one is loud, silly, and not worth the time.
- marshalseaDecember 9, 2025Worth a watch, don't be put off by the music. The OST is bad bad. Although, there's some great song choices for the diegetic music the incidental bits are awfully overwrought, especially the end one. Wow... so much cringe. Acting is good throughout. The big scenes are well shot, but would have been better served by someone not ruining it all with the bad music.
- ርልዪረSeptember 7, 2025I don’t understand the bad reviews nor the rotten tomatoes. This movie is by far one of my favorites. It’s hard to believe a man that sits behind a desk with no record could take a whole gang that killed his son! The ending is satisfying but his family falls apart. It’s realistic it would of been unrealistic if he would of survived.
