In a small Minnesota town, the annual beauty pageant is being covered by a TV crew. Former winner Gladys Leeman wants to make sure her daughter follows in her footsteps. Explosions, falling lights, and trailer fires prove that. As the Leemans are the richest family in town the police are pretty relaxed about it all. Despite everything, main rival (but nice) Amber Atkins won't be stopped. There could well be more death and disappointment to come.
As a farce it's pretty good, and most of the choices for the roles were excellent but if you expect it to have aged well, it did not. Worth a watch, but maybe not two.
When Denise Richards comes dancing onstage in the talent portion of her competition it's a moment to remember. I think this film is hilarious, filled with great actors playing with their early potential and satirizing situations and personalities they no doubt had to endure.
This should be at the top of your watchlist, always. It never fails to change my mood and brighten my day. Perfect casting, from beginning to end. Every character is a joy!
Drop Dead Gorgeous is one of my all time favorite mockumentary style movies. As campy and over the top as it is, and all of the cast are, they absolutely nailed the stereotypical characteristics of kids from a small town high school (and their parents!). It's fun, and psychotic, and I've no idea how many times I've rewatched it - dozens, at least.
Laughed out loud a ton during this one. Everyone is so unfazed in this bizarro town. Janney, Sterling, Adams and Sasso were a blast.
