  • Enjoyed the movie but it didn't feel like an Evil Dead movie.

I love these films. They’re always consistently new and over the top and just plain humorous gore! This is the reason I watch Horror films.
  • Absolutely brilliant movie. I usually can't take gore, especially when meaningless, but everything here is scripted perfectly. The humour breaks up the intensity, and it's timed with precision. Clever throughout, and thought provoking ("love isn't enough" is a perfect response to domestic abusers). I had to close my eyes multiple times (again, I'm not into gore) but I was gripped throughout.

I was so excited for this movie after the greatness that was Evil Dead Rise and this installment just didn't live up to the excitement I had for it. I felt that it lacked a bit in story and I really didn't care for the obvious CGI moments. I'm guessing that due to the missing excitement in the overall story and characters; it felt a bit long. It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't a great follow up to Evil Dead Rise which I gave 4 stars.

There's a point where throwing more blood at the screen stops being exciting and starts feeling like compensation. Evil Dead Burn crosses that line more than once. I wasn't expecting subtlety from an Evil Dead film, nor did I want it. I wanted a horror movie confident enough to make the carnage mean something beyond its own excess. Sébastien Vaniček clearly knows how to stage violent set pieces, and the practical effects are undeniably impressive, but I spent more time admiring the craftsmanship than actually caring about the people being torn apart. Once the novelty wears off, the film has surprisingly little left to offer. That's what ultimately held it back for me. There are moments where Vaniček's eye for horror shines through, and they hint at a much stronger film than the one surrounding them. Unfortunately, every time the story threatens to build momentum, it seems more interested in racing toward the next massacre than giving the audience a reason to fear it. I don't mind horror that's built around spectacle, but spectacle still needs something underneath it. Evil Dead Burn never found that balance. The blood keeps flowing, the bodies keep piling up, and somewhere along the way the film forgets to give any of it real weight. That's what made this one feel so strangely empty despite all the noise.

Such a letdown. Evil Dead (2013) is an instant classic. Rise is memorable and full of rich, traumatic moments. Burn is boring, full of CGI, and just overall a slog. Save yourself some time, just watch Evil Dead 2013 again, instead of this ~2 hour quagmire..

Violence, anyone? Evil Dead Burn starts surprisingly soft, almost like another I Know What You Did Last Summer. Just a bunch of kids hanging out, some family drama, the usual setup. Nothing that really prepares you for what is coming. Then the first bodies start dropping. Holy hell. From that point on, the movie turns into the cage match from hell. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. At some point you might as well just close your eyes and wait to get stabbed. Whatever little story the movie was trying to build gets thrown out the third-floor window, then dragged right back inside through the broken glass. And somehow, it works. You get a wonderfully dysfunctional family mixed with a generous sprinkle of gore fest to brighten the mood. Get comfortable, because Dad is about to lay down the law on his son through walls, furniture, doors, and basically everything else in the house. At least twice. What an unexpected ass kicking from hell. Thanks for reading.

Evil Dead: Ready Or Not Edition Damn somehow even more mean-spirited than the last one! It’s almost too much at times!! I loved it Once again the opening (and the lake) are the best part *ditches his girlfriend to a psychopathic demon* *is shocked when she is immediately shish kabobbed* Sam Raimi single-handedly extinguished the Latin language revival before it ever even had a chance Wish we could have watched that guy just keep shooting himself It’s cool that this family is so progressive about sex that that lady can fuck her zombie husband in front of her zombie mother Why would you break the pen. Just feels like negative consequences all around Genuinely grotesque in a multitude of ways Just some dope, disgusting, original violence! The plot not so much! It was quite dumb that she even tried to use any other weapon once she found the one that, you know, works… Keep coming out with these 3* films - it’s fine with me! I had a terrible time! It was fun! I didn't enjoy this movie. Down right stupid characters. Easily the weakest entry in the franchise, which is a bummer since I had been looking forward to seeing it. Cinematography is the only redeeming thing about this movie

Completely over the top. But I guess that's the point.
  • Dad’s Possessed, Grandma’s Vibing

Ridiculous dialogue and a completely predictable plot. The funniest part is how, for half the movie, nobody seems particularly bothered by the fact that the father is clearly possessed by some evil force. Even his own family barely seems concerned about it. Apparently having your dad taken over by supernatural evil is just a minor inconvenience. And the grandma is on another level entirely - she seems to give absolutely zero f**ks about anything, even when there’s a literal bloody massacre happening right at her feet. Lol.

    Evil Dead new run

I really wish that they would take the evil Dead back to the original roots and the messed up humor about stuff. And just not focusing on the shock and horror aspects of the whole thing.

    Evil Dumb

Evil Dead Burn mistakes randomness for chaos and gore for suspense. Its possession rules, character intelligence, and monster durability change from scene to scene, usually to force the next elaborate kill. The inconsistent logic makes the characters feel foolish and the Deadites less frightening, turning the movie into a loud, exhausting dumpster fire.

My thoughts on Evil Dead Burn

It's a fantastic horror movie. Don't get me wrong but if all this doesn't tie back into Ash Williams it's kind of a pointless story.
