What could have been something intriguing ends up feeling scattered and surprisingly dull, making it difficult to stay invested. The performances can't do much to elevate the material. There is a lack of energy and conviction that makes the characters feel distant, and very little manages to stand out or leave an impression. Visually, the film is rather plain, with little effort to create a distinct atmosphere. The direction feels uninspired, and the soundtrack does not add much to the experience, leaving everything feeling even more flat. The script is where most of the issues come together. It feels unfocused, with ideas that are not developed properly and a pacing that drags without building tension or interest. Scenes come and go without much purpose, making the overall experience feel disjointed. Because of this, the film quickly becomes hard to engage with, lacking both emotional weight and narrative clarity. In the end, it feels like a missed opportunity. There may have been something interesting at its core, but the execution never brings it to life, resulting in a weak and forgettable watch.
- Joseph GarlowJuly 2, 2026Kind of felt like a horror of the movie Clueless, The Craft and something else mixed into one, but I enjoyed it, that is because I have a crush on Lili, I mean Betty ha ha. Can't really say much about this movie, I found it a tad slow at times, a bit dry and I wouldn't watch it again. The cast was good though.
- Josh CJune 22, 2026Such an odd movie. It was clearly heavily influenced by Heathers/Mean Girls/Jawbreaker/Clueless, but not sure it rises to the level of those movies. There were some definite funny lines in this movie that caused me to laugh out loud. Not a whole lot of horror except a few parts. It was a decent movie, but lacked a lot of direction as a whole. I don’t believe it will become a classic like the ones I mentioned, but it had its moments.
- Kevin WardMay 24, 2026Had never heard of Haute and Freddy before watching this, but in the instant that song kicks in for the opening credits, I became obsessed. Scantily Clad is an absolute banger. The movie itself is pretty damn fun too. As many have probably mentioned it’s like a Mean Girls / The Craft mashup, just maybe not quite as polished, but when it hits, it hits. My initial reaction is that his feels destined for cult classic status. But it’s hard to predict that kind of thing and it might only because it’s conjuring the spirit of aforementioned cult classics. Really enjoyed it.

Think Heathers meets The Craft and you get Meredith Alloway latest effort here. The film’s killer quintet—Lili Reinhart, Lola Tung, Victoria Pedretti, Alexandra Shipp, and Emma Chamberlain—turn the food court into a throne room. Reinhart owns Apple, the razor-tongued queen bee, while Pedretti steals scenes as Cherry, a delightfully ditzy hottie with perfect comedic timing. Plot-wise, it’s wickedly simple: hot mall girls form an underground coven to bend people around them to their will… until an outsider slips in and creates a schism in the group. The real flavor comes from Alloway/Diablo Cody one-liners—sharp, bratty, and endlessly quotable—and a wardrobe that feels like a character of its own. The soundtrack snaps too, with needle drops from Kiki Rockwell, Haute & Freddy, and Bria Salmena that give the film a pulsing, alt-pop heartbeat. It’s a fun, fashion-forward horror comedy with bite. And when the third act swerves into something darker and nastier and gory, it doesn’t just shock—it practically winks at a sequel waiting in the wings.
- jackmeatMay 2, 2026My quick rating - 5.2/10. There’s a very specific feel Forbidden Fruits is going for, and to its credit, it commits to it. Even if it sometimes feels like it’s more interested in being cool than actually being, you know, entertaining. Right out of the gate, the film sets the tone with a radio-dial intro, landing us in full Shudder territory before introducing Apple (Lili Reinhart), who casually manipulates a guy in a parking lot like it’s just another Tuesday. Subtle? Not even slightly. But it does immediately tell you what kind of world you’re stepping into. One where the Free Eden girls rule the mall like it’s their own slightly cursed kingdom. Apple, along with Cherry (Victoria Pedretti) and Fig (Alexandra Shipp), runs a secret witchy femme cult out of a mall. Of course they do. It’s giving The Craft with a heavy splash of Heathers, and yeah…I could feel those influences in basically every frame. Sometimes that works. Sometimes it feels like the movie is one sarcastic monologue away from just admitting it has both films on speed dial. The dynamic gets shaken up when new hire Pumpkin (Lola Tung) enters the mix, immediately calling out the group’s performative “we’re all sisters” energy - which, let’s be honest, had red flags all over it from the start. There’s also the legend of Pickle (yes, Pickle), the mysterious fourth member who’s no longer around, complete with a whole “Ballad of Pickle” detour that feels like the film daring you to stay invested. And here’s the thing. For a solid chunk of its 103-minute runtime, Forbidden Fruits is all buildup. A lot of attitude, a lot of aesthetic, a lot of “look how edgy we are”…and not a whole lot actually happening. You’ll start to feel it creeping in. That little voice in your head going, “Are we going somewhere with this?” Then, almost on cue, something finally does happen. The third act kicks in like the movie suddenly remembered it promised horror, delivering a blood-soaked payoff that includes, of all things, a weaponized escalator. Yes, really. And honestly? It works. The kills are creative, the tone fully dives into dark comedy absurdity, and there’s even a twist that doesn’t feel like it was pulled out of a clearance bin. It gives the film a bit of meaning and, shockingly, sticks the landing better than expected. Bonus points for dodging the typical Hollywood ending, too. It doesn’t go where you think it will, which is refreshing in a genre that often plays it safe. That said, you can’t overlook the amount of time it takes to get there. Act one and two feel like an extended hangout that doesn’t know when to leave, but not all viewers will be willing to sit through that long for the reward. If you appreciate a good dose of '80s mall culture, however, then this might work for you. And just when you think it’s all over, the post-credit scene reveals Sharon (Gabrielle Union), because apparently, this mall has more secrets to spill. In the end, Forbidden Fruits isn’t terrible. It’s just uneven. More dark comedy than horror, more vibe than substance for the most part. But when it finally decides to bite, it at least leaves a mark.

With that said I did not like the dull colourtone of the film and the tone teneded to whiplash at times. Sometimes the film was even a bit boring. These issues tended to overwhlem the otherwise good acting of the 4 leads.
