Good Time throws you straight into the kind of night that seems to get worse every time you think it can't. Robert Pattinson carries nearly the entire film as Connie, a desperate man whose confidence keeps him moving even when every decision makes his situation worse. He's completely unrecognizable here, bringing an intensity to the role that makes it easy to understand why Connie keeps pushing forward even when there is clearly no good way out. Josh and Benny Safdie surround him with a cast of equally unpredictable characters, turning New York into a frantic maze where every encounter seems capable of making Connie's situation worse. It's an exhausting experience in the best way, even when the film asks you to follow characters who aren't particularly easy to sympathize with. A big part of that exhaustion comes from the way the Safdies shoot the film. The camera stays so close to Connie that there is barely any room to breathe, while Oneohtrix Point Never's electronic score gives the night a restless energy that makes even the quieter stretches feel like they're waiting to explode. I can understand why the score won't click for everyone, but I thought it fit the film perfectly. I also enjoyed seeing Barkhad Abdi pop up in a smaller role, even if the film doesn't give him much to work with. My biggest issue was that the story occasionally relies on one coincidence or unlikely decision too many, particularly as Connie's night becomes more complicated. Some of those turns made the film feel less believable than the filmmaking surrounding them, but they rarely stopped me from wanting to see where the night would end. Pattinson's performance gives the film its greatest strength, finding something strangely compelling in a man who spends the entire night digging himself deeper. Good Time isn't always an easy ride, but it's one I couldn't look away from.

Not quite as polished as it's anxiety-inducing cousin Uncut Gems.... but still a good time

For anyone that has family that are physically or mentally disabled, this film makes you worry what if they had a different type of family.

This is one of the most nerve wracking movies I’ve watched in a long time. It’s just relentless, dragging you from one chaotic scene to another, while watching Robert Pattinson’s character ruin just about everyone’s life who he comes into contact with.

Firstly, Pattinson is sensational; secondly, the film’s score is a true masterpiece: it builds tension, sets the mood, emphasises the pace and moves in step with the characters. The direction and editing are superb. It’s an extraordinary, unconventional film, though at times you find yourself wishing the pace were even faster.

I love these type of movies about shitty people whose lives just completely blow up because they’re constantly being shitty. Robert Pattinson was incredible in this, so believably scummy. This had such a great monologue from the guy who played Ray, I was completely mesmerized by it.

Excellent movie. If you've seen their amazing Uncut Gems, then this is worth checking out. Patterson is magnetic, charming, and despicable. Like in Uncut Gems, you are constantly on guard for when the noose will finally be tightened and the antihero will finally stop spinning their plates and get caught.

Pattinson goes full Wahlberg-in-Boogie Nights here, trading teen idol status for a desperate, electric performance that made everyone finally take him seriously.
