    A DIFFERENT place and time.......

The movie starts with a sense of carefree, almost a documentary like snapshot of urban teenage culture in mid ’90s New York. Skateboards clatter across sidewalks, friends drift through crowded streets, and the city pulses with a chaotic energy. The film captures multicultural, transient teenagers: chasing thrills, hanging out and city life. As the story unfolds, the tone darkens and dread builds. Larry Clark’s photography background is on full display: handheld cameras, natural light, and real New York locations give the film gritty realism. The script is excellent and the young actors do an amazing job. It’s a standout indie film.

Oh to be young again… AKA The Red Ribbon S-tier Eminem name drop. Cannot separate this film from Harmony on Letterman which bumps it up a half star The most disturbing “consensual” sex scene maybe of all-time. You think Larry or Harmony liked Irreversible more? Just….such an ending. Feel like that epilogue inspired the shit out of the Safdies and Ronald Bronstein I’ve wanted to kick Telly’s ass for 20 years now. It’s a little more (or less ? ) complicated after seeing Storytelljng but still Will always make me chuckle that Bobby from Scary Movie is in this Never realized this was produced by Gus Van Sant. Yeah, that checks out. Between this and Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, there are some QUALITY rap samples containing dialogue from these films! Throw in Gummo and you got an entire Mac Miller album. “Casper the Friendly Ghost” is an all-timer needle drop. What a soundtrack.
