In 400 AD, the Roman Empire extends to Britain and the Romans become impressed with the fight skills of the warrior Sarmatian people, which are spared, but have to send their sons to serve Rome in the cavalry for 15 years. Only after these services, these knights are free to return home. King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table have their last mission before achieving their freedom.
This is a decent enough historical action movie, even if the story is definitely the weak point. The cast does a lot to keep it going, with Clive Owen, Mads Mikkelsen and Ioan Gruffudd all being solid. The gritty look works well too, and I like that it tries to give the Arthur legend a more grounded, historical feel.
The battle and fighting scenes are easily the best part. They're brutal, well-shot and actually have some weight to them. Unfortunately, the writing is pretty uneven, some of the characters aren't given much to work with, and the movie can drag between the bigger action scenes. Still, the cast, atmosphere and strong action save it from being much worse. Pretty average, but definitely watchable.
