The recreation of the French toast moment got me at the end hard. I bet there were so many moments when Dustin was just watching Meryl do some of the best acting ever and was just in awe.

A acting classic. Two heavyweights and one of the best child performances ever. THE divorce movie.

Honestly, I was little disappointed by this on my first time watch. Hoffman and Streep are both really excellent, but the script feels very much a product of it’s time. Portrays Hoffman as a nurturing empathetic father and Streep as a neglecting mother. Perhaps groundbreaking at the time in it’s depiction of nontraditional gender roles, it doesn’t have the same impact with a 2023 lens. Also the courtroom scenes felt very exaggerated and overdone. Probably not a fair comparison, but since they’re compared all the time, I can say I liked Marriage Story much, much more.

In a couple both sided should be happy in order for the relation/marriage to work. This movie is a good example and the cast is as good as it can get.

This movie shows exactly why i should never get married - terrific performance from the child actor - movies like this really teach you a lot about the responsibilities you silently owe to people just for existing - 4.5/5

1979’s Kramer vs. Kramer is about the dissolution of a marriage and how two people deal with such a circumstance. The opening scenes struck me as a masterpiece of characterization through action, showing us the buildup of years of marriage and its dissolution all in the span of ten minutes. There is no montage, no flashbacks, only action in the present.
