Where to Watch Last Man Standing
- tellumApril 7, 2026This movie has a lot of inexplicable charm, and was a staple of the cable era where they’d rerun any schlocky action film they could find. The story is not that good, and the acting is not notable, but the ridiculous over the top gunplay combined with a unique and really well filmed setting, makes for a movie that is somehow more fun than it should be.

Another of those based on Yojimbo/Red Harvest/Glass Key combination, and as such shares heritage with A Fistful of Dollars, and you can see the threads shared across. Bullets and men fly all over the set - stunts galore. It's a film that purposefully knows suspending reality to let Bruce unload 30 bullets from a set of 8 shooters is ridiculous but also allowing Bruce to do superhuman things. As for that score by Ry Cooder - how low can your baritone go? Brilliant stuff. Well worth your time if you want a precursor to Miller's Crossing, you can feel that that was inspired by this, just don't expect the best film you've ever seen. Did exactly what Walter Hill intended it to do.
