- Manuel FrangisJuly 18, 2026I just watched License to Wed, and I would give it a solid 5 out of 5 stars. This movie is a fun, heartwarming romantic comedy that had me laughing from beginning to end. It has a great mix of humor, romance, and life lessons, making it an entertaining watch that never feels boring. The chemistry between the cast is excellent, and the story keeps you invested while delivering plenty of memorable and hilarious moments. The movie follows Ben Murphy, played by John Krasinski, and Sadie Jones, played by Mandy Moore, a young couple who are excited to get married. Before they can have their dream wedding, they are required to complete an unusual marriage preparation course led by Reverend Frank, played by Robin Williams. What starts as a simple requirement quickly turns into a series of outrageous challenges that test their relationship in ways they never expected. Robin Williams is the highlight of the movie. His performance is funny, energetic, and completely unforgettable. He brings so much personality to Reverend Frank, and his unique approach to preparing couples for marriage creates many of the movie's funniest scenes. John Krasinski is very likable as Ben, and Mandy Moore does a great job as Sadie. The chemistry between them feels natural, making it easy to believe they are a couple trying to build a future together. The comedy is one of the movie's biggest strengths. The marriage lessons become more ridiculous as the story goes on, and Robin Williams' comedic timing makes almost every scene entertaining. At the same time, the movie has plenty of heartfelt moments that remind you what a strong relationship is really built on. It balances comedy and emotion very well without becoming overly dramatic. The pacing is smooth, and the movie keeps introducing new situations that keep the story interesting. There are very few slow moments, and each challenge helps the characters grow while giving the audience another reason to laugh. It is an easy movie to sit back, relax, and enjoy. One of the things I liked most about License to Wed is that it has a positive message about trust, communication, and commitment. While the situations are exaggerated for comedy, the movie still shows that every relationship takes work and that overcoming challenges together can make a couple even stronger. Overall, License to Wed is an entertaining romantic comedy with a great cast, lots of funny moments, and plenty of heart. Robin Williams steals every scene he is in, and the rest of the cast delivers strong performances that make the story even more enjoyable. I had a great time watching it, and it left me smiling by the end. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, feel good comedy with a little romance mixed in. For me, it easily earns 5 out of 5 stars.

It has some plus points, such as half The Office cast (presumably to keep Krasinski company?) and a start that feels like it’s going to be indicative of the awkward comedy of the early noughties. However, it fast falls into the trap of, ‘just let Williams freestyle.’ Don’t get me wrong, it’s the absolute best part, as is often the case. So much seems off script, and the surprise on the casts’ faces is as honest as ever. However, an hour and a half is a long time to expect one man to carry a film and story on his own, especially in a supporting role. Having raced out of the traps, the story loses steam, characters intentions become a little blurry and then we end with a final throw away… they stretched and stretched and then realised they didn’t need to stretch anymore, so just let go, and rolled to credits. A shame.
