This is the first big disappointment of 2025. I was pretty amped for this movie going in . Ke Huy Quan was getting a big shot at stardom. And he was perfectly cast in an 87 North movie, who made the John Wick movies, Bullet Train, Nobody, The Fall Guy. Here's the good news Quan is a blast to watch as usual. He's charming and effortlessly powerful. There is no denying that he's an action star and I hope he gets even more movies like this. Speaking of which, the action scenes here are a good time. There's only 4 of them. But they're engaging, intense, and surprisingly bloody. They're mostly at the beginning and end of the movie which was a kind of odd choice, but they are what most viewers will come to this movie for and they do deliver. It's also a good thing they were there because otherwise this movie was rough. It's got a paper thin plot that that tries but fails to get deep. It wants to say things about love, free will, and fighting the darkness in ourselves, but it all comes out super cliche. Speaking of which the writing is very trope heavy. The middle of the film played like watered down Tarantino. It beat you over the head with repeated exposition and dead obvious voice over. That reeked of studio notes hoping to make the movie easier to understand while the viewer is looking at their phone. Which is a bummer because 87 North’s stylized action comedies are usually better written and crafted than this. Some of the kills were also unnecessarily cruel just for shock value. And sadly Ke Huy Quan and Ariana Debose have no chemistry and unfortunately the movie hinges on their chemistry, so that's not good. Anyway, because of Quan’s raw talent and the movie’s fun action scenes this film is probably going to do numbers on streaming. And maybe that's fine, but otherwise I'm disappointed.

Ke Huy Quan was done dirty here and I refuse to acknowledge this movie is under his repertoire. The industry is trying to make him the next Jackie Chan of the modern day and it almost feels like we’re typecasting him. It’s such a forgettable plot that feels dumb and can’t take itself serious even if it tried. Love does hurt but watching this movie hurts more.

I would give this movie one star… but since Ke Huy Quan is in it, I’ll give it a two.

Growing up in the 80’s, I loved Indiana Jones and Goonies. When Ke Huy Quan made his triumphant comeback as an adult with Everything Everywhere All At Once I was impressed. So naturally I was excited to see him front and center in a Valentine’s Day themed action movie. I was not disappointed. The film was directed by action choreographer Jonathan Eusebio. The film centers around a realtor with a past that comes back to haunt him, starting with a very fun Jackie Chan style fight in his office that leads to him having to confront his crime boss brother, deal with the unrequited love of his life and lots of martial arts action featuring Mustafa Shakir, Marshawn Lynch, Rhys Darby and Sean Astin. Yes, Data has reunited with Mikey. As I mentioned, the first fight is very reminiscent of Jackie Chan movies of the 80’s and 90’s, very reactive and funny. As the film progresses the style changes. It takes cues from the likes of Donnie Yen and Jet Li as well. Each fight has a distinct style. The story and humor feel like another 87North fight choreographer turned director’s movie, Bullet Train. It has a light and fun tone that pairs well with the martial arts action. The movie does not disappoint in either way. The only thing I felt was lacking was the chemistry between Quan and his female love interest played by Ariana DeBose. Although she was fun to look at and performed well in the fight scenes, there was just little believability in their romance. But that’s a rather small complaint. Most of us come to movies like this for the fights, and those were a blast to watch. The romance subplot was fine and nothing to complain about. Both performed admirably but, knowing from directing a few things myself, sometimes you don’t notice the lack of chemistry till you’re in the edit bay…especially if you’re dumb enough to cast yourself in the movie like I did. Oh well, enough about my missteps. Go watch this movie. If you’re a fan of light and fun action movies then you’ll dig this one.

This movie really isn’t even worth reviewing. I just wanna make sure that none of you unnecessarily watch this piece of garbage. It is one of those films were weak beta males get to pretend like they’re some kind of savior… Absolute garbage. You just know some nose ring haven’t blue haired dude out there thinks this is him.

Tried to be funny and dark and gruesome and light hearted at the same time and failed at it all. Plot was weak, characters were meh.. Sorry, just not a solid movie worthy of watching

The leading roles don't have any chemistry at all. The girl who played rose is not convincing at all and feels like she doesn't belong there. All other characters is good and goofy. I love Ke Huy Quan but the chemistry wasn't there at all.
