Where to Watch Mary and Max
- damask00May 11, 2026This is a small masterpiece in the world of adult animation. There is a common misconception that animated films are only for children, but that is simply not true—and never was. Animation is an integral part of the fine arts, and Mary and Max is undeniably a proud example of that.
- Elliot047January 30, 2026This is not made for kids; it's too dark, and that's the only issue I have. Rest is frankly awesome. Animation is not animation, but actual miniature props and puppets; that's a lot of art there, must have taken the prod team years. The story is also sweet, sensitive, and a subject that is handled with care and humour. Watchable, but my question remains the same: why make an animated film on such a dark subject when you know your audience is Adult? Just Why?
- annanelson7January 13, 2026Bittersweet. Beautifully bizarre claymation that's primarily done in sepia tone and grayscale; story rich in vulnerability and unlikely friendship. I really appreciate the whimsy it brings to depictions of real life struggles. Some might find it too crude or dark at times, but, to me, this juxtaposition highlights the sort of innocence in perceiving the world literally. Score is a bit repetitive and lackluster. Phillip Seymour Hoffman's voice acting is fantastic.
- [ e c k o b a s e ]February 5, 2025A great stop motion animation from Australia with the late great Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Toni Collette, based on a true story it was very heart felt and did tug on the heart strings showing that no matter how this world treats you there are friends who will always love you 'warts and all'
