- Steven SchwalgerMarch 8, 2026Never read the books so I have no idea if this sticks to the sorce maerial. What I do know is this: 1. The best thing about this movie is the zombies. 2. The zombies are hardly even in the movie 3. If they had more zombies eating people it would be fantastic 4. Why do they indiscrimatly fire missles into the right arms camp only then to use tazers when they have boots on the ground? So stupid.

The first movie pitted kids against robot spiders; this one pits them against zombies. Dylan O’Brien again carries the film with his talent and intensity, and I’m still looking forward to seeing where his career goes. But he’s not the only standout; Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Newt is fantastic. I wish Newt and Thomas had more time together on-screen. You can tell there’s a real friendship and mutual respect between them, but it’s underused. Everyone else calls him Thomas, while Newt calls him Tommy — a small but fun nod to their bond. The chase scenes bring solid suspense, even if they feel a little forced at times, and the story’s journey through the Scorch to the finale is more of a slow burn. I wish there had been less focus on the big traveling shots and more time exploring the group’s dynamic.

It’s not a bad movie by any means—it has some great moments and a few intense sequences—but overall, it feels a little all over the place. The story jumps around a lot, and sometimes it’s hard to stay fully invested in what’s happening or why. There are parts where you just wish you could check back in with other characters, especially Newt and the rest of the group. That said, the film still has plenty of good things going for it. Dylan O’Brien once again delivers a solid performance as Thomas, and the rest of the cast continues to bring strong energy to their roles. There are some surprising moments that stand out and keep the movie from ever feeling boring. It’s not as tight or well put together as the first or third film, but it works fine as a second chapter. The true villains in this one are especially easy to dislike, which adds some good tension, and the ending sets up the next movie nicely. Overall, The Scorch Trials is an okay film—flawed, uneven, but still entertaining enough to keep you watching. It’s not great, but it’s good enough for what it’s trying to be.

It’s bigger and louder than the first film, but that doesn’t always mean better. The action is relentless, and the visuals of the desolate Scorch are stunning, but the story gets tangled in its own mythology. I found myself struggling to connect with the characters, who felt more like plot devices than people, and the pacing was all over the place—one moment thrilling, the next dragging. Dylan O’Brien still holds the center well, but the emotional depth just isn’t there. Based on my own experience, I’d give it a 3.2 out of 5. It’s a decent ride if you’re already invested in the series, but it doesn’t quite earn its sprint.
- Daniel GustavssonOctober 11, 2024I expected a lot from this, but it ended up much worse than the first one sadly. Nothing in this story makes any sense and you never really get any questions answered either. At the end, you're not sure what anyone is fighting for, or why they would do so. Oh well. At least there was less bad acting in this movie than the first, but that's only because there is no character development at all so the characters are never really given the opportunity.
