- cornbredx4d agoWow. Great movie. I too grew up with Michael Jackson being the king of pop. It was such a phenomena. No one has ever, and will ever be loved in the way Michael Jackson's talent was. A lot of pretenders can try. They are not nearly as good, and never will be. The Beatles were the only thing I can think of as similar to Michael Jackson which might be why he was infatuated with them- meaning he wanted to be like them. I learned a few things here I don't think I ever knew before. I did not know that he was still dealing with the Jackson 5 in the 80s. In the late 90s, I think it was, Michael produced a movie for VH1 about his younger years. This movie was much kinder on Joe Jackson than that movie was. But because of that movie I guess I never realized how long he was dealing with Joe- as he left stuff out of that movie if I recall. If they get to make a sequel to this I hope they get into that movie, Captain EO, Moonwalker, etc. It feels like this movie barely scratches the surface, but it was cool to see a few things about how he developed a song or come up with signature dance moves- as truncated as these things are I still appreciate those details (although, it should be mentioned: Michael filmed short films about the things he was doing all the time so there are many ways to see how he did these things directly from him already). They'll have to get into the controversies, though. From my living memory I remember Michael getting really weird after his hair got lit on fire. I guess I never thought about it, but the drugs, and the damage from the fire and everything taking a toll on him explains that better to me. I also remember the media and the paparazzi really drove him insane and he would do things that made no sense because of that. Anyway, wow. What a great movie. Although, Michael Jackson's Moonwalker is still better. 😄 I also want to really bring attention to Coleman Domingo portraying Joe Jackson. Phenomenal performance. I hope he at least gets a nomination at the Oscars for this. He really put a lot into this role. Fantastic job.
