Where to Watch Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

On the positive side, most of the characters were interesting, the acting was solid across the board, and the core mystery of the story itself was pretty good and kept my attention. However, the movie leans incredibly hard into themes that felt entirely unnecessary to the actual plot. I expected a little bit of the pagan/voodoo elements given the setting, but it goes way beyond that. There is a ton of weird transgender and homosexual content woven throughout the narrative that didn't feel like it served the main story at all. If you are looking for a straightforward, classic mystery or courtroom drama, just be warned that this movie spends a massive amount of time focused on these elements instead. It's a decent watch for the performances, but the execution misses the mark.
