Where to Watch Rampage: Capital Punishment
- Patrick WaiJune 28, 2026For a sequel built around a man trying to ignite a revolution, Rampage: Capital Punishment feels surprisingly repetitive. Instead of evolving as a filmmaker, Uwe Boll largely repeats the formula of the first movie, right down to recycling footage and relying on the same hyperactive handheld camerawork. What once felt raw now simply feels tired. The movie is actually at its strongest during the first half, when several storylines are unfolding simultaneously. Bill is moving through his plan while the outside world slowly reacts, creating tension and uncertainty. Once he occupies the television station, however, the narrative becomes almost entirely linear. From that point on, the film loses much of its momentum and settles into a predictable hostage scenario. That shift also exposes the screenplay’s biggest weakness. Just as I noted in my review of the first film, the most compelling aspect of Bill Williamson isn’t the violence but his ideas. Whether his philosophy is persuasive or completely deranged, the movie would have benefited from sharper dialogue and a more carefully developed exploration of his message. Instead, the speeches often feel underwritten, leaving the central conflict less engaging than it could have been. Technically, little has improved. The handheld camera remains relentlessly shaky, the editing is rough, and Boll still favors a documentary style that initially creates energy but eventually becomes distracting. Rather than heightening realism, it often draws attention to itself. Like its predecessor, Capital Punishment works best as a conversation piece rather than as an action thriller. It raises provocative questions without offering satisfying dramatic development. Unfortunately, because the filmmaking hasn’t matured much since the original, the sequel ends up feeling more like a retread than an escalation.
