The OG Scream 😱🔪 was a lightning in a bottle slasher film; where it just had the perfect formula & balance on how to make the perfect slasher! It features has one of the most iconic openings & final girls in all of horror. It's very very quotable, all of the main & side characters are all great & memorable. And an iconic horror villain was born in Ghostface. Scream 1996 birthed alongside "The Evil Dead" franchise one of the most consistent & solid horror franchises of all time. The Scream franchise in my mind is yet to have a bad entry in it. The original Scream just had the complete formula & balance on how to make the perfect slasher! And no Scream movie as much as I love both Scream 3 & 2; don't come anywhere near the magic of that 1st film, which is very fair & realistic to say!! It's paced absolutely perfectly 👌 there's nothing that you can add or take away from it. Wes Craven R.I.P & Kevin Williamson were on fire 🔥 when making this genre defining film!! Scream 1996 is one of those films like "Jaws 1975" for example, that's endlessly rewatchable, quotable & perfectly paced as I've already mentioned from start to finish.

It's a decent 'jump scare' romp. I have the 'unfortunate' history of having watched TOO many horror movies (and I mean original Italian ACTUAL horror films from Fulchi to Argento to Hammer Horror, and everything in between). My 'bonus Mom' managed a video store in the 80's and 90's. I know EVERY trope, EVERY rule, EVERY twist (the ones you think are original, AREN'T). Still, credit where it's due, Craven was a master for a reason (RIP, Wes).

Plot: The quiet town of Woodsboro is shaken when a masked killer known as Ghostface begins targeting high school students. Sidney Prescott, a teenage girl still traumatized by her mother’s murder a year earlier, becomes the main target. The film follows Sidney and her friends as they try to survive while unraveling the killer’s identity. Strengths: Clever & Self-Aware: Satirizes slasher film clichés while still delivering genuine suspense and scares. Iconic Villain: Ghostface is chilling, mysterious, and memorable, with clever use of a voice-modulated phone call. Strong Cast: Neve Campbell (Sidney), Courteney Cox, and David Arquette give strong, memorable performances. Suspense & Pacing: Builds tension masterfully, with well-timed jump scares and red herrings. Wes Craven’s Direction: Skillfully balances horror, humor, and meta-commentary. Weaknesses: Some Gore is Minimal: Compared to other 90s slashers, the gore is relatively restrained. Predictable for Horror Buffs: Viewers familiar with slasher tropes may guess certain twists, though the film plays with these expectations. Overall: Scream (1996) is a revolutionary slasher that revitalized the genre. It’s clever, suspenseful, and self-aware, combining horror, humor, and mystery. Ghostface remains one of the most iconic villains in horror cinema.

I'm a huge fan of the Scream franchise, so this movie really does not disappoint. I've binge watched the entirety of all the scream movies because they are that good. However, after the first one it becomes repetitive. This movie has some of my favorite actors in it, so my opinion on the acting may be biased 🤣. But overall it's a great movie. I wouldn't recommend any further down the line since it's the exact same plot.

It's A nice, simple slasher movie with none of the exaggerated parts from other big slasher franchises like Friday the 13th, for example

Fantastic movie. From the actors to the filming locations this movie is pure gold. I love seeing my home town and familiar shots in other places from my childhood. One of the best slasher franchises out there. All the Scream movies will always hold a special place in my heart.
