Fans of '70s schlock (hello!) should enjoy this one. Firmly ensconced in the airplane disaster subgenre that was peaking at this time, Death Proof has the requisite stacked cast: Lorne Greene, Peter Graves, Burgess Meredith, Bert Convy, Robert Reed, Martin Milner, Doug McClure, Brock Peters, Tina Louise, Susan Strasberg and Billy Crystal (playing an openly gay flight attendant the same year his groundbreaking gay character debuted on TV's ``Soap.'') The plot is standard but effective: The maiden flight of a luxury, high-tech passenger plane is complicated by the tension between two pilots, an act of sabotage by a disgruntled rival and finally, a virus that could potentially kill hundreds of millions of people. Best part, though, is the passionate attraction between the silver-haired Graves and a young Season Hubley. If Wikipedia is to be believed Graves was only 51 at the time, but his silver mane and deep voice make him seem like Hubley's grandfather. The ending of ``Death Flight'' peters out a bit abruptly, but it's mostly a fun ride. Plus, it's got a title that belongs on a ``Seinfeld'' episode.
