Where to Watch Talk to Me
- Garrett WilkinsJuly 18, 2026What stands out first is how quickly the film shifts from what looks like a familiar supernatural setup into something far more character-focused. The Philippou brothers take a premise that could've easily become repetitive and keep finding ways to push it further, raising the stakes without losing sight of the emotional core. There's a real confidence to their direction, especially for a feature debut, and Sophie Wilde gives the story a grounded center that makes the increasingly unsettling moments feel believable. The movie builds tension in a way that feels steady and intentional, and it's clear the filmmakers know exactly what kind of experience they're aiming for. That momentum didn't hold perfectly for me, though, and parts of the back half drifted closer to conventional horror territory than the opening suggested. Even so, the central idea stayed strong enough that I never lost interest, and the film maintains a firm grip on its atmosphere. I came away understanding why Talk to Me earned so much praise. It's not one of my personal favorite A24 horror entries, but it's an impressive debut that makes me curious to see what the Philippou brothers do next.
- rg9400July 8, 2026At its core, this seems like a simple possession movie. But there is a rawness and bleakness to it that just makes it seem way more disturbing than most. And it is able to leverage this tried premise and spin into a parallel about grief and addiction that I think works well. It has some fairly disturbing moments. One negative is the ending feels a bit underdeveloped and could have been much sharper for how good the beginning of the movie is. The acting and camerawork are notably good.
- Austin BurkeMay 30, 2025This is an unforgettable horror experience that almost brings every element home. The atmosphere is built up brilliantly, and the imagery is haunting. These characters make ignorant decisions, but the repercussions provide a story that will keep viewers engaged from start to finish, and the pacing is fantastic.
- MrTrivetApril 20, 2026The film’s atmosphere reminded me of an old New Zealand anti-drunk-driving commercial - a house party, people joking around, recording everything; dismissing the thought of danger, only confronting the consequences of their actions once someone gets hurt. Allegorically, it has a lot to say about modern youth culture, where people keep pushing the boundaries of common sense for clout and virality. The characters’ microdosing of occultism comes back to haunt them in a seriously disturbing way. This is a horror movie that landed very close to home for me, with incredibly engaging performances. From the very first scenes, it builds tension and maintains it with an intensity comparable to the best in the genre. The film’s greatest strength lies in its young cast - their emotions, mistakes, and need for belonging feel painfully authentic. While the special effects are strong, what truly stands out is the overwhelming sense of tension, uncertainty, and the gradual uncovering of the mystery surrounding the demonic hand.
- pipanniSeptember 22, 2025An original horror movie, with some nice ideas and a great tense atmosphere. Great acting by the lead female, which is essential to making any horror film convincing. The only thing at fault is the pacing, which is uneven, and also the fact that most characters are annoying and/or uninteresting. But all in all this is a good horror movie that fans of the genre should not miss.
- Halim MellickJanuary 2, 2026Watched this movie leading into midnight 2025/26 and started the year with my hole clenched tightly. As an Australian fan of horror, especially the shining, 2001 a space odyssey, get out, nope, hereditary, midsommar, the babadook and the loved ones, this was an unexpected treat. As biased as I am, this film really stood up to the other’s mentioned and that’s a huge achievement for a debut from 2 Aussie boys. Next up on the list was Bring Her Back and gosh I was not ready for that hectic back to back but I highly recommend
