Where to Watch The Ballad of Wallis Island
- Lovely film, slightly daft, but well-acted and heartfelt. Tom Basden apparently wrote the songs, which are surprisingly good, and he plays very well. Carey Mulligan is also a very good singer, which lends an air of authenticity to the whole thing. If you like low-budget, well-acted comedy-drama, thus is for you.
- I thought this was going to be a commentary on art, patronage, and the unhealthy relationship some fans have with the artist, but it ended up being more about the artists’ relationship including their art….and then it goes back to my original thesis. All while being comedic and grappling with the past! Such a uniquely sad and annoying character. The Brits are very good at that! Hilarious in the most tiresome way The lantern-tracking shot was very neat. Loved the music! Beautiful film! Added to 2025 Ranked
