In a film that feels so airy and exploratory at times, The Bikeriders makes every moment in the story essential to its telling. Events that seem irrelevant tend to circle back – in a meaningful way. In a sense, the film seems constructed to deliver a common refrain in a refreshing manner: Never judge a book by its cover.
- fhe82June 20, 2026Although I've seen similar stories told before, so I would not say that The Bikeriders brings anything especially groundbreaking to the genre, I still found it refreshing because it avoids many of the clichés that usually come with biker movies. This is not a romanticized celebration of motorcycles, freedom, and rebellion. It does not feel like another Easy Rider imitation trying to transform the biker lifestyle into something poetic or mythic. Instead, it reminded me more of films like C.C. & Company, presenting a version of biker culture that is rougher, dirtier, and far more grounded in reality. What impressed me most was the film's willingness to embrace cruelty and decline. Rather than portraying the club as a brotherhood untouched by consequences, it shows how the environment gradually hardens everyone involved. As the years pass, the people become more aggressive, more territorial, and less connected to the ideals that may have brought them together in the first place. The movie captures a sense of transition, depicting what feels like the everyday reality of a bike club before organizations like these fully evolved into criminal gangs. There is still friendship, loyalty, pride, and a genuine sense of belonging, but those qualities exist alongside ego, violence, insecurity, and a growing appetite for power. I also appreciated how the film explores the inevitability of change. Traditions and reputations only carry someone so far. Eventually, younger members arrive with different ambitions and different ideas about what the club should be. Those who cannot adapt risk being pushed aside, regardless of what they contributed in the past. That aspect of the story felt particularly authentic to me. It is not presented as fair or noble, but simply as the natural outcome of a culture built on strength, status, and influence. But the ending scene is what really got to me. Benny is in his backyard, having a beer with a friend after a long day at work. Life has moved on. He is no longer inside that world the same way. And then he looks away, almost lost in thought, and you can still feel that he hears it: the roaring thunder of the choppers. Man, that part is real. We always long for what is gone. Even when it was dangerous. Even when it hurt us. Even when we know we cannot go back. Harsh as it may be, that final note is what made the film stay with me.
- InceptahFebruary 2, 2026Jeff Nichols dropped the ball for me on this one. The Bikeriders never grabbed me at any point, so the whole thing felt like a slog. None of the characters were particularly interesting, which made it hard to care about what was happening, and the story just drifted without ever really pulling me in. The accents felt forced at times, and Tom Hardy seems stuck playing the same gruff, mumbling tough guy again.. it’s starting to feel more like typecasting than range. It’s not badly made, but it’s one of those films that feels more like a collection of moments than a compelling story. I can see why some people appreciate the atmosphere, but for me it was just boring throughout. IMDb’s 6.6 score feels about right.
- Kevin WardJuly 1, 2025Liked it, but didn’t love it if only because it’s not really my thing. Jeff Nichols clearly has a lot of reverence for subject and it permeates nearly every frame. The entire ensemble is impeccably cast. Wished there had been more Michael Shannon, he was probably my favorite. Hangout, slice of life, but one that didn’t really move me.
- hcbowApril 15, 2025I'll watch anything with Tom Hardy, he has good taste in films. This movie was an interesting character study, and cinematically beautiful. It felt like it was trying too hard to spell out a poignant message with dialogue and narration that was better left to the characters and undertones. Good watch overall. Keep an eye out for Norman Reedus.
