Where to Watch The Day the Earth Stood Still
- angeltread2d agoA sci-fi classic for sure. For the 50s it prob was a big old mind trip to those back then. In comparison to everything thats come since (75 years, wow) it’s quaint and charming. Like a good original series Star Trek or Twilight Zone Episode, it has the bones and core of something substantial. I respect it and even though I’m far from blown away by it, it held my attention and enjoyed what it was laying down. My rating is taking in the account when it was made but also, at least a little bit, with modern eyes, cause its far from perfect, but my respect is keeping me from being too harsh on it. Plus Robert Wise directed Star Trek The Motion Picture too, and thats my fav ST movie so i gotta give this as much leeway as possible. I have seen the remake and remember enjoying that to a degree at least. Be interested in revisiting it now that I've seen this one. Also i feel old cause when i was born, i was closer to when this was made by almost 20 years more than the time it is now to the time i was born.
- Mister ArnMay 14, 2025"The Day the Earth Stood Still" remains relevant more than 70 years after its release. This film explores universal themes of peace and the survival of humanity, which continue to resonate over time. Its lasting appeal demonstrates the film's effectiveness in communicating these important messages. Serving as both a time capsule and a timeless warning, it reflects the fears of its time while addressing the ongoing challenges humanity faces in wielding power and fostering peace.
- Aaron FimpleSeptember 9, 2025A movie from the 50's that makes you think how humans never change their ways for the better but perhaps there could be a future where we do listen. There is a lot of sweet moments and feels like a long twilight zone episode. Strangely a cozy movie besides it's world-ending plot line.
- Joe KnappJune 15, 2025One of the finest sci-fi movies ever made, period. It's great because it doesn't insult your intelligence or force you to suspend disbelief. You can actually walk away from this movie thinking it could really happen. In fact, you may wish it would happen! The special effects are butter cream frosting on the cake, but the movie isn't built around them. It's a good story with excellent acting. Every human being should see this movie!
