Where to Watch The Dressmaker
- jody.b5August 2, 2025I loved this movie. Kate Winslet pulls off another great role. Hugo Weaving’s character is so nice to watch. I love how they deal with the issues of a small town. Kate’s character returns home to a very small minded community from which she was banished. How she deals with the past and the present and all that happens to her is a testament to the strong woman that she has become.
- flavo43November 24, 2025The Dressmaker was a film I only watched because my wife insisted—and I’m glad she did. It’s not the kind of movie I’d normally choose, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Australian cinema has a knack for punching above its weight despite limited budgets and resources, and this film is another great example of what local talent can achieve. Based on a popular novel, The Dressmaker is a wonderfully unpredictable blend of sharp humour, quirky small-town drama, and heartbreaking tragedy. Kate Winslet and the supporting cast deliver standout performances, bringing the eccentric characters of a rural Australian town vividly to life. The story keeps you engaged right up to the final moments, balancing comedy and sorrow with impressive finesse. And while the ending is absolutely satisfying, it’s also bittersweet—leaving you unsure whether to feel triumphant or saddened. Overall, it’s a funny, moving, and beautifully crafted film.
- NJuly 18, 2025A great watch! Kates accent is spot on. Great acting (although mostly overacting as is the style) Portraying a turned out woman returning to her childhood nightmare (home town) to nurse her mother, the stark contrast of a worldly and classy self-made woman returning to hillbilly hill and her endeavour to remember a hideous trauma and clear her name but with sequins, beading, carefully contoured dress designs and ultimately leaving again with a blazing exit and head held high.
