Where to Watch The Father
- cultfilmlikerJuly 3, 2026Alzheimer’s Anomalisa Can’t wait to get old so I can feel like I’m being gaslit 24/7/365 This film inspired me to keep watching films until I’m literally falling asleep bc I gotta make the most of my “happy” times left here on Earth Devastating. Horrifying and heartbreaking. Literally gave both of my parents a hug halfway through and then again after 🥹 Didn’t watch this when it came out bc I was currently living it with my mother’s mother. It’s all too real and I saw what my mother went through and now I get to see exactly what my grandmother went through. Fuck Imagine every day being a nightmare you can’t wake up from. Like worse than the one we’re living now. Wouldn’t wish it on anyone I feel like Beau is Afraid borrowed the ~vibe~ from this, if you understand what I mean Olivia Colman is legitimately the greatest. Anthony Hopkins amazing as well It’s odd bc Hopkins looks like my grandpa (without his trademark mustache) but not the one that actually had dementia. Sad, personal-attack of an amalgamation. I wonder if they could make a version of this plot that was even darker and went into more abject horror. Oh yeah, Beau is Afraid. No, but seriously a Dust Bunny / Good Boy style POV but the horror is the slow, worsening progression. Like The Disintegration Loops meets live-action It’s Such A Beautiful Day I watched my grandma do the same thing Anthony does in the emotional climax a number of times. Shit hurts. What a performance.
