Where to Watch The Fifth Element
- Eldon McGuinnessMarch 13, 2025This movie has so much happening in it; aliens, corporate greed, an underdog hero, more aliens, action scenes, ancient mysteries, and that is just the beginning. It is hard to imagine that this movie all started in the mind of a 16-year-old and grew to be such an iconic film! The characters fit together so well and seem to have great chemistry, taking their performance to a truly engrossing level. Bruce Willis is the hero once again, with Milla Jovovich playing both a damsel and a secret weapon needed to save the world. Sprinkle in a bit of comedic styling by Chris Tucker and you have a recipe for an excellent movie night.
- Christopher Pucknell3d agoA spectacular melange of action movie tropes, Die Hard, Blade Runner and Indiana Jones influences are on display in this unforgetable sci-fi action comedy popcorn movie adventure. The cast are all great in this film, fitting perfecting into the fully realized and believable grimey fantasy future. The oddly enduring mythos of the four elements gets the captain planet treatment and the universe, once again threatened by anicent evil is saved at the last second by the undeniable power of cheese, or rather, Love. Mila Jovovich shines as the so-called ultimate lifeform, but felt a little under utilized in the later half, a missed opportunity in a film largely dominated by the reliable burnt out cop brilliance of Bruce Willis. Her kick ass character is abruptly re-adjusted to the damsal in distress role, and it leaves a nagging feeling like there was a scene missing to sell the transition from her optimistic nievety to despondent wounded and hopeless demeanor, ready to be saved by Bruce. I don't know how strong the chemistry was between them either. Chris Tucker is unbelievable as the intergalactic pan-sexual radio DJ, and brings a lot of energy. It all adds up to an enduring great movie, and I was shocked to learn recently that the Opera scene was about 85% real vocals, complementing the real effects, and limited CGI making the film an enduring visual and auditory delight.
- shelbyseitenbachApril 11, 2026This movie falls so far from my normal wheelhouse, yet it is one of my all-time favorites. It's silly and it's clever and just very well done. Sometimes we dismiss shortcomings because something is "a product of its time." This movie is only all the more impressive despite being a product of its time.
- ApocMoraMarch 30, 2026Ridiculous and fantastic. One of my all time favorites, and glad I got to hangout with friends and watch this again recently. I totally need to read up again on the lore of all the things in the movie, plus try and track down documentaries on all the fun Easter eggs and things.
