Very good adaptation of the Gray Man books. Lots of action and as always Ana is easy on the eyes.

Just an awesome action movie. Didn't know it's based on books. Funny the accounts that disliked it are already ones I've blocked.

I just watched The Gray Man again and I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. It is a fast, stylish, and energetic action movie that delivers exactly what you expect from a big budget spy thriller. While it does not reinvent the genre or bring anything especially deep, it offers a fun and intense experience built around impressive action scenes, strong performances, and a confident sense of momentum. The story follows Court Gentry, a highly skilled CIA operative known only as Sierra Six, who becomes the target of his own agency after uncovering dangerous secrets about corruption within the organization. When the CIA sends an unpredictable and ruthless assassin named Lloyd Hansen to hunt him down, Six is forced to go on the run. This sets off a globe-spanning chase filled with high stakes fights shootouts and close calls. The setup is familiar but works well because of the pace and the constant sense of danger that follows Six from one country to another. One of the best aspects of The Gray Man is the action direction. The Russo brothers bring big energy to every sequence, making each fight and chase feel cinematic and exciting. The movie is packed with large-scale set pieces including explosions rooftop fights and fast moving shootouts in crowded locations. The action is intense without being confusing which keeps it fun to watch even during the wildest moments. The blend of hand to hand combat gunfights and clever escapes keeps the movie feeling fresh from scene to scene. Ryan Gosling delivers a strong performance as Six. He plays the character with a calm, focused confidence that makes him easy to root for even when things get chaotic. He brings humor subtle emotion and a quiet toughness that fits perfectly with the tone of the film. Chris Evans steals almost every scene he is in as Lloyd Hansen. He plays the villain with over the top charm, unpredictable energy, and a playful cruelty that makes him both entertaining and threatening. The dynamic between the two leads adds a lot of personality to the story. The supporting cast is also solid. Ana de Armas brings determination and strength as agent Dani Miranda, helping to balance the action with moments of teamwork and resilience. Jessica Henwick, Billy Bob Thornton and Alfre Woodard all contribute important moments that round out the world of the movie and add layers to the story. Each character plays a role that helps move the plot forward and gives Six reasons to keep fighting. The movie’s pacing is fast and mostly consistent. The story moves quickly from one mission to the next making it easy to stay engaged. While the plot itself is not groundbreaking the structure works for an action thriller. The movie focuses on momentum rather than depth which fits the style and keeps things entertaining from start to finish. A few things hold The Gray Man back from being truly great. The story is predictable and follows the usual spy thriller formula. Some characters feel underused and certain plot points are left simple when they could have added more emotional impact. But even with these limitations the movie succeeds because of its energy confident direction and strong cast. Overall The Gray Man is an exciting and fun action film that delivers on what it promises. It may not be the most original spy movie but it offers a stylish and enjoyable experience with memorable characters and high quality action. I had a great time watching it and it is definitely a movie I would revisit.

My quick rating - 6.7/10. Another Netflix original that just came out today (July 22nd, 2022), so it should be in your queue waiting for ya. Since the Russo brothers are involved, we can expect plenty of good-looking action scenes. And that scene in downtown Prague did NOT disappoint at all!! 200 million dollar budget, it better look damn good. What we did end up getting is a solid action/thriller that is apparently a setup for things to come from the streaming giant in a further "Gray Man" universe. The setup is fairly simple and straightforward, with a CIA agent who is only known to the highest levels of security, who uncovers a conspiracy of utmost importance, accidentally, of course. So the evil villains are dead set on killing Ryan Gosling (as Six), and the entire movie turns into a global manhunt with Chris Evans on his tail the whole time. Now, I was slightly unimpressed with the actual setup of Six, especially if they plan on using his character in future flix. But that flaw aside, the rest of the way is very enjoyable. In his attempts to survive, and there are MANY close calls, he has to take on a partner, love interest, wherever you would like to place her role in Ana de Armas. But calling her love interest is a complete disservice since she is much more of an offensive asset than just eye candy. I will say she has been proving to be quite the female actioneer as of late, and well deserving of the roles. The scenery is astounding, and there is a dizzying amount of switches to locations all over the planet for geography buffs. I am also sure that measuring the number of green screens used to make this film would be another record of some sort. The fighting looks surprisingly good as they seem to be taking Gosling down the Keanu Reeves road and placing him in a John Wick-type role. I will say I am fine with that since he handles it well for the first entry here and looks to be in proper shape for it. Definitely a bit expensive, but it does deliver the goods, just makes you wonder if it ends up being money well spent? Check it out if a fan of action flix and don't expect much more than a popcorn flick, and you'll do just fine as long as you don't mind a lean plot.
