5 stars because this is the strongest Hulk in a movie but the casting choice is horrible except for Edward and the general. that army soldier was like 5'2

The Incredible Hulk, starring Edward Norton, delivers a gritty and emotionally grounded take on the iconic Marvel character. Norton brings depth and vulnerability to Bruce Banner, making his internal struggle with the Hulk feel raw and human. The film balances character-driven storytelling with intense action sequences, especially the climactic showdown with the Abomination in Harlem. While it doesn’t reach the heights of later MCU entries, it stands out for its serious tone, strong performances, and thrilling pace. A solid, underrated gem in the early Marvel universe.

I can't believe we had Liv Tyler in the MCU and wasted her on this movie. Probably the most isolated and out-of-place feeling movie in the early MCU. Odd pacing, action bits that sometimes stretch past their needed duration, fairly flat characters, and an emotionally interesting arc around Betty's relationship with her current partner and Bruce's return that gets started but not explored or resolved despite good potential. I actually look forward to seeing Tim Roth back as Emil Blonsky later in She Hulk. Edward Norton gave it a good shot as Bruce, but his more snarky portrayal does not convince as much as Mark Ruffalos truly tortured, sad spirit take that will charm audiences throughout the rest of the MCU.

I really enjoyed this movie. This is the version of the Incredible Hulk that I wish they had kept throughout the MCU. That's not a slight on Mark Ruffalo, his version of the Hulk is good and more "fun", but when you compare the two, CGI quality aside, this version of the Hulk is meaner, stronger and looks more like a monster. The story is pretty straight forward and basic and the pacing is a bit slow as they explore character relationships but the action sequences are well done and you really do get a sense of the Hulks strength. There's also a little bit of humour, but it's subtle like when Bruce explains to Betty that he needs to remain calm at all times and then the very next scene they are taking a New York cab across town and his heart starts beating uncontrollably as they weave in and out of traffic. It's kind of funny to think that Banner could turn into the Hulk because of a taxi ride when usually it's from being beaten up or seeing his friends hurt! I also wish the MCU would revisit some of the plots established in this film because there is clearly a scene setting up the emergence of one of Hulk's greatest foes, The Leader, but it's never been mentioned again in other films that I'm aware of... Edward Norton played the role of Bruce Banner well I thought but the standout in this film for me was William Hurt as General Thunderbolt Ross. He did a fantastic job and no wonder he stayed on to continue portraying the character in the MCU. My favourite scene was the end fight between Abomination and Hulk, the actual end of the fight itself was a little bit of a let down but the lead up to it and the back and forward feats of strength were fun to watch. Final Verdict: It's not the greatest movie in the MCU but it's much better than some critic reviews lead you to believe. It doesn't really play too much of a role in the MCU anymore as you can easily bypass it and still understand and enjoy every other film in the franchise. In saying that, I reccomend this film to all superhero or comic book fans as it's a great interpretation of the Incredible Hulk with some decent action.

Simple, but Effective "The Incredible Hulk" is often one of the more overlooked entries in the early superhero wave, but it delivers a grounded and surprisingly effective take on the character. The film takes a more serious and contained approach, focusing on Bruce Banner's isolation and internal struggle rather than spectacle alone. The tone is darker and more restrained compared to other superhero films of that era, which gives it a distinct identity. The action sequences, when they arrive, are impactful and destructive in all the right ways. Edward Norton brings a thoughtful intensity to Banner, portraying him as a man constantly on edge, trying to suppress something uncontrollable. The supporting cast does a solid job, and while some character dynamics could have been explored more deeply, they serve the narrative well enough. The CGI, for its time, holds up reasonably well, even if a few moments show their age. The pacing is steady, though not particularly innovative, and the story follows a fairly straightforward path. Overall, "The Incredible Hulk" may not be the most memorable superhero film, but it's a solid and engaging entry that captures the character's tragic core effectively.

Beautiful shots of the south American favellas if you like that type of thing, which may be the problem, its too good at being a technically proficient film and not enough focus is placed on being a thrilling movie. With compelling enough chases, it goes through the motions and is actually compatent enough on rewatch but fails to carry anywhere near the excitement in the action or charm in the character as its contempory, Iron Man. Norton is missing any form of charisma, Liv Tyler is forgetable and only Tim Roth pulls a memorable turn as the soldier who simply likes a good old fight, and more it doesnt really feel any connection to the Hulk as he appears later in the mcu which is probobly the most telling aspect that Marvel rejigged the formula before letting this monster out of the cage again realising that he works better as a companion charachter. Ultimately and unfortunatly skippable.

Probably one of the weaker MCU movies in my opinion, but definitely overhated.
Bruce Banner is a really interesting character and I liked how the movie focused on him constantly trying to stay calm while the military hunted him down.
Abomination was a decent villain, although I wish we got a little more from him.
Not my favourite MCU movie, but still worth watching if you’re doing the full marathon just like I am right now.
7/10
