In October 1991, a confluence of weather conditions combined to form a killer storm in the North Atlantic. Caught in the storm was the sword-fishing boat Andrea Gail. Magnificent foreshadowing and anticipation fill this true-life drama while minute details of the fishing boats, their gear and the weather are juxtaposed with the sea adventure.

A far better film than it's generally given credit for. A really sad affair, and a terrible loss to the Gloucester community and in awful circumstances. Fishing is a terribly dangerous business.

🌩️ When I first saw this at the multiplex way back in 2000 I didn’t much like it, but watching it again almost 20 years later as a grown-up it is actually a very good film , its well acted and very well made. having done some research on this it seems nobody knows exactly what happened to the Andrea Gale but I suspect what is depicted in the film is not too far from reality. It certainly isn’t a feel good film, the overall tone is downbeat and gritty and the ending is very sad, you want them to succeed so badly – it’s heartbreaking to watch as their situation goes from bad, to worse, to hopeless, but it certainly gives one an appreciation for what men like this go through and the risks they take.

A great action film and probably the best from director Wolfgang Petersen. The special effects are excellent, and combined with very nice performances from the cast, you really feel like you're there with them, enduring the storm. A bit more strict editing would have been nice to cut some of the fat and make the movie just a bit shorter.

Cast littered with stars, but with a saccharine script and soundtrack constantly trying to make you think it's Band of Brothers. No, it's a movie about men trying (and failing) to catch fish. It tries to play up the realism but we can rest assured it's heavily dramatized. The ending subverts expectations a bit which I liked, but it leaves a very paint-by-numbers feel overall.

Having read the book this is a really plain and underwhelming movie, characters poorly built and the effects seem too fake. On the upside, good squad of actors.
