Follow the daily lives of several quilters inside the sewing room at South Central Correctional Center, a Level 5 maximum-security prison in a small town two hours south of St. Louis, MO. From design to completion, the men reveal their struggles, triumphs, and sense of pride in creating something beautiful in this windowless, sacred space deep within the prison walls.

This was heartwarming. It was so beautiful to see the inmates working so hard to give foster children something beautiful for their birthdays. It made me emotional. I love how serious they take it. You can tell how much they care about what they are doing. A quick watch and most definitely worth it.

Feels like a companion piece to Sing Sing. A half hour documentary short portrait of a quilting program at a department of corrections facility. Inmates learn every aspect of the quilting process and create hand-made, hand-designed quilts for foster children. The redemptive power of art, creation and community service are on full display. It’s also simultaneously sad to see some of the inmates lose these privileges.
