The attempt to weave a sprawling crime drama is admirable, but it occasionally slows the momentum between the jaw-dropping action sequences. Still, the craftsmanship of the action, combined with the gritty atmosphere and strong performances, makes "The Raid 2" a thrilling experience. It doesn’t hit as hard narratively as it could have, but as an action film, it’s a powerful showcase of the genre.
