Where to Watch The Return
- sam.54February 2, 2025Great, gritty, more realistic take on the last few chapters of Homer's Oddessy. No magic or gods here, just raw realism. It's a bit of a slow burn, but that adds to the power of the more "war veteran returning" focus of this version. I do wish this production had just a bit more budget. A lot of the shots are very tight where I'd like to see some bigger sets, and a lot of the town and court shorts are very sparse where some extras would add to make Ithica feel more like a kingdom as opposed to a small settlement. But aside, Raph Finnes is great and so is the lighting, makeup, and costumes. It looks very much like we're transported back to Greece
- EnochLightMay 2, 2025While we await Christopher Nolan’s interpretation of The Odyssey, this film offers a compelling look at the final chapters of the ancient Greek epic. Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche deliver outstanding performances, and the cinematography beautifully captures the raw, emotional journey of Odysseus returning to Ithaca. Much like Wolfgang Petersen’s Troy, the film avoids supernatural elements, instead grounding the story in gritty realism. It’s a thoughtful, human portrayal of a legendary tale - highly recommended.
