A German spy is passing on information about the location of Allied ships in the neutral harbor of Goa, India, with catastrophic results. Unable to undertake a full military operation in the Portuguese stronghold, English intelligence brings out of retirement a crew of geriatric ex-soldiers, veterans from World War I, using their age as cover. These old soldiers are asked to take to the seas and pull off an unlikely undercover mission.

The Sea Wolves is a charming, old-school war adventure that shines a light on one of the most improbable covert missions of World War II. While it might feel a bit slower than modern action films, its unique premise and star power keep it afloat. The Appeal of Fact over Fiction The film’s greatest strength is that it is rooted in real events. Knowing that a group of middle-aged, out-of-shape British businessmen (the Calcutta Light Horse) actually sailed a barge 1,400 miles to take on the Nazis gives the story a layer of gravitas it wouldn't otherwise have. It’s a "truth is stranger than fiction" scenario that adds genuine value to the viewing experience. A Powerhouse Cast You rarely see this much "acting royalty" in one frame. The movie boasts an incredible cast, featuring: Gregory Peck as the stoic leader. David Niven bringing his trademark British wit. Roger Moore providing the heavy lifting in terms of charm and action. The Bond Connection The subplot featuring Roger Moore is particularly entertaining. Released during the height of his tenure as 007, his character feels like a cheeky nod to James Bond. His flirtatious interactions and "cloak and dagger" spy work provide a stylish contrast to the gritty, "dad-army" vibe of the main mission.
