I didn’t know it was a classic. I didn’t care that it was from 1940. All I knew was that it had flying carpets, towering genies and a thief named Abu who felt like a friend. The colors were dazzling, even on an old CRT screen. The special effects, though dated now, were mesmerizing back then. Watching it again as an adult, I see the craftsmanship, the boldness, the joy in storytelling. But nothing beats that first time, when I didn’t know what “classic cinema” meant and all I saw was a world where anything was possible.
