A young woman embarks on a remote hiking trail in the Alps to cope with a trauma. In the midst of the rustic landscape, she is now not only confronted with her own fears, but also has to face an alien threat.
- Dario TibayJune 4, 2026A quiet Austrian sci-fi horror film about trauma, isolation, and an alien threat on an Alpine hiking trail. The Trail is very slow and almost meditative, with little dialogue and a heavy reliance on landscape, sound, and Sophia Grabner’s physical performance as Anna. That restraint gives the film a strong atmosphere, though it also makes the pacing feel stretched in places. What makes it interesting is how the alien presence seems tied to Anna’s fear and unresolved grief, turning the survival story into something more psychological. It does not fully explain itself, and that may frustrate some viewers, but I liked its strange, handmade quality. It feels small, uneven, and sincere — a moody wilderness horror film where the mountain path becomes emotional terrain.
