Where to Watch Uprising
- Joe GNovember 14, 2025Underwhelming. I went in with high hopes for stellar choreography and production and was disappointed with the former but not the latter. The sets and costume design are beautiful, but the fight sequences feel bland or overly familiar. Watching this felt similar to when I put on a Star Trek movie when what I really want is Star Wars—too much time spent developing a story I’m uninterested in, and the action, which should be the focal point, pushed to the side. The character development is equally uneven. Some characters are developed while others, who seem poised to play significant roles, drift in and out of melodramatic moments that ultimately do not matter. It becomes a revolving door of emotional beats that never land, all leading to a culminating moment that should be far better for the amount of buildup. The film feels unbalanced throughout: flashes of excellent camera work, but not consistently enough to elevate the experience. And when you combine that with a plot that lingers on unimportant narrative threads, action sequences that fail to stand out, and character moments that lead nowhere, the result is a film with far too much buildup and nowhere near enough payoff.
