Where to Watch Urban Legend
- CarterNovember 25, 2025Urban Legend is an underrated horror classic. I’m personally a big fan of slasher movies, and this was just right up my alley. The movie is one of the most fun slasher movies out there, not taking itself seriously. The cast is great and a lot of fun to be around. The kills are great as well!! I thought the score was also creepy and builds up tension in the film. I also thought the twist was great and executed well. So overall a horror classic in my eyes and a movie I will not stop recommending!
- Zokkiie2d agoDidn't dislike this, but it never really rises above being another late 90s Scream copy. The urban legend concept is cool, and the cast is better than I expected, which makes it easy enough to sit through. It also has that nostalgic 90s slasher feel that carries a lot of the movie. The mystery is where it falls apart. The killer is so obvious that it's hard not to figure it out well before the second act, which takes away most of the suspense. The story doesn't have many surprises, and the scares are pretty average. Still, it's a fun enough watch if you're going through 90s slashers, just don't expect it to be one of the standouts.
- Kevin WardJuly 5, 2025“She’s probably shacked up with a guy, or girl….or farm animal. Weren’t you ever 18?” -The Dean This is way more playful and meta than I remember. While that’s probably more in an attempt clone Scream’s DNA, I’d say it works pretty damn well. Casting of Robert Englund as the Urban Legend professor, Pacey turning off the Paula Cole needle drop, and the group at the end re-casting the role of Brenda with “The Noxzema Girl”. There was even a solid Richard Gere gerbil reference. Fun stuff. The only cast member that I had remembered before firing this up was Rebecca Gayheart. Had totally forgotten that Jared Leto and Tara Reid were in this. I actually thought it was an Urban Legend that Tara Reid used to be famous, but I stand corrected. (She’s awful in this, by the way). There music is awesomely over-scored, particularly in the opening kill sequence. It also has one of those terribly bad jump scares with a loud musical sting, when it just Tara Reid walking in the library. I’ve always loved the premise and I think the film is a super fun slasher watch even if some of the kills are ridiculous. Gayhearts performance was really fun in the final act, too.
