Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort — Movie Review Well… I finally made it to Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort, and somehow this franchise managed to find a new way to disappoint me. This installment is, without question, the absolute worst of the franchise. The main little cannibal of the bunch is played by a different actor, and let me just say… it was not an upgrade. After Wrong Turn 5 ended on a cliffhanger, you would naturally assume the sixth movie would pick up where the previous installment left off, right? Wrong. Apparently, continuity was something the filmmakers decided to take a wrong turn away from. Instead, we are given the absolute lowest of the low. I can’t help but feel disappointed, which is honestly impressive because my expectations were already at an all-time low after the previous installments. Somehow, this movie looked at those expectations and said, “Hold my beer.” The storyline is so unbelievably boring that it makes the previous Wrong Turn movies feel like Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy by comparison. That’s how bad this movie is. As a movie reviewer, I’ve watched some absolutely horrendous films. I’ve seen movies that made me question my own life choices. Yet, somehow, I can usually find at least one saving grace—a good performance, decent effects, an interesting story, some entertaining gore, or at the very least something that makes me say, “Well, that was something.” Not here. The only thing I can really give this movie credit for is that the actresses are attractive and there is a LOT of nudity. Probably more nudity than in any other installment of the Wrong Turn franchise. But if you’re watching Wrong Turn because you want horror, gore, suspense, and creative kills, congratulations—you’ve taken the wrong turn. The acting is also absolutely atrocious. Everyone comes across like they just graduated from an acting class at the local junior college and immediately got handed a script they weren’t qualified to read. And the costumes? Jesus Christ. The inbred hillbillies/cannibals look like they got dressed for Halloween at the last possible minute and raided whatever was left in the clearance aisle. Compared to the previous installments, the costumes look incredibly cheap and poorly made. At this point, I would honestly advise you to skip this movie. Unless, of course, you’re like me and have some sort of unhealthy commitment to finishing an entire franchise no matter how badly it starts falling apart. Because that’s the most disappointing thing about Wrong Turn 6. The franchise actually started pretty strong. Even when the movies went straight to DVD, starting with the second installment and continuing through the subsequent films, there was still enough entertainment value to keep me watching. Then we got this. This slop. Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort gets ½ a star out of 5. And I’m only giving it that half-star because I absolutely refuse to give a movie a zero. There is almost always something I can appreciate as a viewer. Unfortunately, I had to dig deeper than a horror fan should ever have to dig to find anything worthy of half a star. So, consider yourself warned: SKIP THIS MOVIE. Unless you’re determined to finish the entire Wrong Turn franchise like I am, in which case… Godspeed, soldier. You’re going to need it. And honestly, after sitting through this movie, I can’t help but feel like I was the one who got sexually violated by having a fire hose shoved up my rectum. Yes. That actually happens in the movie. And somehow, that’s still not the worst part. It’s worse than you can imagine.
