Varsha Bharath is an Indian filmmaker and screenwriter based in Chennai. She made her feature debut with Bad Girl (2025), a groundbreaking Tamil coming-of-age drama that explores the journey of a young woman navigating identity, family expectations, and personal freedom. The film premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, where it won the NETPAC Award for Best Asia-Pacific Film and was nominated for the Tiger Award. It later earned further acclaim at the Cinema Jove International Film Festival in Valencia, receiving the Young Jury Award for Best Feature Film.

Before her directorial debut, Varsha Bharath worked for nearly a decade in the Tamil film industry as an assistant director and writing assistant, contributing to several notable productions and subtitling more than 100 films. Her storytelling is marked by authenticity, raw emotion, and a focus on female perspectives rarely explored in mainstream Tamil cinema.

With Bad Girl, Varsha Bharath established herself as a bold new voice, praised for blending intimate character work with a refreshing narrative style. Her work reflects a commitment to portraying flawed, evolving women and challenging conventional social norms through cinema.
