After leaving his island posting, the ever-bumbling Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) seeks a quieter life as Detective Inspector in his fiancée Martha’s hometown — only to find the countryside comes with its own brand of madness. This is classic comfort viewing: a sweet, slightly clumsy police procedural where every episode follows a tried-and-true rhythm — crime, confusion, revelation, and resolution, all buoyed by a cast of wonderfully eccentric locals. The cases are rarely brutal, the tone remains warm, and Humphrey’s mix of brilliance and awkwardness keeps things delightfully human. What makes Beyond Paradise shine is its blend of genres — part mystery, part romcom, part small-town character study.
