Where to Watch Lord of the Flies
- RipLinesManJune 22, 2026Lord of the Flies (2026) is a daring prequel to The Lord of the Rings that finally reveals what Middle-earth was like before Gandalf, Gondor, or basic adult supervision. A group of young Hobbits crash-land on a tropical corner of Númenor and attempt to build civilization using a conch shell, a signal fire, and absolutely no understanding of municipal government. Ralph is clearly an early ancestor of Aragorn, while Jack is basically Saruman with face paint and a concerning enthusiasm for sharpened sticks. The “Beast” is obviously a Balrog, the island is clearly prehistoric Mordor, and the conch functions as a budget One Ring. Everyone wants it, nobody can handle its power, and the entire fellowship falls apart because they refuse to establish a proper speaking order. But the film’s biggest twist comes in the post-credits scene, when Piggy’s broken glasses begin glowing red. He slowly turns toward the camera and whispers, “One does not simply maintain a signal fire.” That is when we learn Piggy was Sauron the Dark Lord all along. His glasses were not for eyesight. They were the first forge of Mount Doom. His obsession with rules was merely preparation for ruling all life in Middle-earth. Even his constant complaints were apparently spoken in the Black Speech of Mordor. Suddenly, the entire movie makes sense. Piggy was not being ignored. He was quietly observing, waiting, and gathering enough emotional resentment to eventually forge the One Ring. Overall, Lord of the Flies is an essential Tolkien origin story about the rise of Sauron, the fall of Númenor Beach Camp, and the ancient discovery that children should not be left alone with fire.
